The Fit for Future (F4F) Platform, a high-level expert group composed of stakeholders and representatives from all EU Member States, operated from 2021 to 2024. Its mission was to assist the European Commission in simplifying existing EU laws, making them more modern, future-proof, and responsive to emerging trends, technologies, and societal changes.
Thanks to its diverse composition—representing a wide range of stakeholder interests and involving the Committee of the Region’s RegHub network and the SME envoys network —the Platform played a crucial role in making EU policies and laws easier to implement, more efficient, and less costly for Member States, regions, sectors, and businesses.
The Platform concluded its work with a final plenary meeting on 17 October 2024, marking the end of its four-year mandate with the following key achievements:
- 41 opinions adopted, with around 260 specific suggestions for simplifying and modernising EU laws
- 650 individual contributions from government and stakeholder groups
- Contributions to flagship Commission initiatives such as VAT in the digital age, the Late Payments Directive, Ecodesign, the Gigabit Infrastructure Act, the Interoperable Europe Act, and the Banking Union package.
Its contributions spanned a wide range of priorities, including simplification, better implementation and enforcement of EU law, reducing and simplifying reporting obligations, digitalisation, and future-proofing.
