Outlook

In 2022, the Commission will continue important enforcement work in the area of maritime affairs and fisheries.

The Commission will:

  • follow up on verifications, autonomous inspections and audits performed under the Control Regulation (Regulation (EC) 1224/2009);
  • monitor the implementation of existing administrative inquiries and action plans adopted pursuant to Article 102(2) and (4) of the Control Regulation;
  • follow up on ongoing EU Pilot dialogues, including through the adoption of new action plans;
  • follow up on the implementation of the constituent components of the common fisheries policy, such as the application of the landing obligation set out in the Common Fisheries Policy Regulation (Regulation (EC) 1380/2013);
  • take action to ensure that the Member States implement mitigating measures for cetacean’s by-catch – the objective shared in the environment policy;
  • follow up on the correct implementation by the Member States of the Maritime Spatial Planning Directive, especially the establishment and content of national maritime spatial plans (Directive 2014/89/EU).
