Outlook

In 2022, the Commission will continue important implementation work the area of energy.

The Commission will:

  • carry on the systematic and comprehensive assessment launched in 2020 and 2021 of whether Member States have completely and correctly transposed the provisions of the amending Energy Efficiency and Energy Performance of Buildings Directives (Directive 2010/31/EUand Directive 2012/27/EU ), and the provisions of the Directive on the promotion of energy from renewable sources (Directive (EU) 2018/2001);
  • pursue the on-going enforcement actions under the Regulation on the security of gas supply (Regulation (EU) 2017/1938), in particular with respect to notification obligations and the application of the solidarity mechanism between Member States;
  • monitor the progress made by Member States in implementing the Regulation on risk-preparedness in the electricity sector (Regulation (EU) 2019/941) and take enforcement action where necessary to ensure compliance;
  • conclude the assessment of the open cases of partial transposition of the Basic Safety Standards Directive (Directive 2013/59/Euratom);
  • continue to pursue the conformity cases under the Radioactive Waste Directive (Directive 2008/98/EC);
  • conclude the assessment of the open conformity cases under the Euratom Drinking Water Directive (Directive (EU) 2020/2184).
