Making the internal market work better with improved market surveillance, problem-solving support to citizens and business, and enhanced competition policy

Aims

The single market is at the heart of the EU. It is the largest market in the world, where people, goods, services and money can move almost as freely as within a single country.

The Single Market Programme aims to ensure a well-functioning EU internal market for goods and services, including in the areas of financial services, anti-money laundering and the free movement of capital.

We will

  • make the internal market work better including through
    • improved market surveillance
    • problem solving support and advice to citizens and businesses
    • enhanced competition policy that contributes to a level playing field and empowers businesses
  • implement and enforce current rules and develop them further in areas including
    • company and contract law
    • anti-money laundering
    • the free movement of capital, goods and services
  • ensure financial services meet the needs of consumers, civil society and end-users
  • enhance the tools and expertise of the European Commission to effectively enforce competition rules in the digital economy
  • strengthen cooperation with authorities in EU countries and enhance advocacy
  • ensure better functioning of the single market on the ground by helping public buyers get better value for citizens’ money

Tools

  • The Your Europe platform, which will be expanded to provide online administration services for citizens and companies
  • The Internal Market Information System for information exchange between authorities involved in the practical implementation of EU law
  • The SOLVIT network that helps EU citizens and businesses with breaches of their EU rights by public authorities in another EU country
  • FIU.net: An IT system connecting financial intelligence units in EU countries to facilitate the cross-border fight against money laundering

Calls for proposals

Calls for proposals for actions supporting a more effective single market under the Single Market Programme will be published on the European Commission’s Funding and tender portal.

Proposals can only be submitted electronically through the Funding and tender portal.

Information including the legislation and rules for participation, templates for proposals, evaluations and project reporting can be accessed on the Funding and tender portal.
