Thermal renovation of the Vauban building in Nîmes University

The Vauban building from 1688 is a former prison which was transformed into a university residence in 1995. Thermal renovation works will allow a reduction of energy consumption by 37.5%, and the installation of a reversible heat pump will drastically improve the energy mix of the building: the share of fossil fuel should fall from 50.7% to 7.9%. Greenhouse gas emissions per m2 should drop from 14.4 to 3.9 kgCO2/m2/year. The EUR 2 million allocated by the Recovery and Resilience Facility will contribute to the insulation works as well as the replacement of windows and the installation of the heat pump. The project was completed at the end of 2022.
