Experience of the castle view at Podčetrtek Castle - Sustainable restoration and revitalisation of cultural heritage and public cultural infrastructure

The goal of the project is to safeguard the castle from potential damage and foster sustainable cultural tourism. The investment aims to address energy, programmatic, and structural aspects of the castle, encompassing the renovation of the façade and interior, along with the preparation for the structural reconstruction of the walls. This comprehensive initiative seeks not only to preserve the historical integrity of the castle but also to enhance its offerings and contribute to the cultural tourism experience.

As part of the project, innovative approaches will be employed to develop new tourist products. These offerings will predominantly leverage digital tools for the presentation and promotion of the cultural heritage and the entire destination of Podčetrtek. The integration of digital tools is designed to provide visitors with an immersive and technologically enriched experience, fostering a deeper connection with the cultural significance of the castle and its surroundings.

Financial support for this transformative endeavor is secured through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 1.6 million to a project valued at EUR 2.1 million in total. The Municipality of Podčetrtek plays a pivotal role by providing the remaining funds, highlighting the collaborative effort between national and local entities in the pursuit of cultural preservation and tourism development.

Formalizing their commitment, the Ministry of Culture signed a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Podčetrtek in November 2022. This partnership signifies a concerted effort to ensure the successful conclusion of the castle's renovation by December 2024.

In summary, the completion of this project is anticipated to not only fortify the castle against potential damage but also to position it as a dynamic and sustainable cultural tourism destination, contributing to the overall appeal and vitality of Podčetrtek.
