Building a solar-powered cable ferry Križnica

The village of Križnica and the town of Pitomača are connected daily by a cable ferry that maintains communication between Križnica and other parts of Pitomača Municipality in Virovitica Podravina County. The cable ferry is of vital importance for the life of residents in Križnica since there is no road that connects Križnica with the Municipality of Pitomača. 

Due to an increasing need for population mobility, it was necessary to modernise the cable ferry in order to ensure greater safety of navigation and more environmentally friendly transport. With the support of EUR 762,000 from the Croatian Recovery and Resilience Plan, a solar-powered electric cable ferry is put in operation in the first half of 2023. 

This measure is a great example of a small investment with a significant impact on improving the welfare of the community.
