It will also enable Lithuania to disconnect from the Russian controlled electricity grid and synchronize with the continental European electricity grid. In case of accidents, batteries will provide instantaneous electricity reserve service in less than one second. In the future, batteries will help to integrate renewable energy sources. On 2 July 2021, European Commission President von der Leyen visited the project site, where the approval of the Lithuanian Recovery and Resilience Plan was announced. The construction of the project, which received EUR 87.6 million of funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, has already finished and is currently in test phase.
