Commission to directly support the EU’s healthcare sector with €3 billion from the EU budget

The Commission has today proposed to direct €3 billion from the EU budget to support EU countries’ healthcare systems in their fights against the coronavirus.

The Commission will now work with the EU Member States to direct money where the most pressing needs are. For example, the Commission will:

  • Directly purchase and distribute medical supplies;
  • Help import and transport medical equipment and across EU countries;
  • Assist with the cross-border transport of patients to hospitals with free capacity;
  • Support the construction of mobile field hospitals.

The pandemic has hit some more than others. In full solidarity, we all need to help those in need.
