The European Commission is organising a high-level conference bringing together key institutions and speakers to discuss better law-making that supports Europe’s recovery. The conference will focus on the improvements to the Union’s better regulation put forward by the European Commission in its April 2021 Communication: Joining forces to make better laws, and the ways better EU law-making can contribute to the recovery. It will explore opportunities for a more systematic and strengthened cooperation across the EU institutions as well as engagement of European key stakeholders and citizens.
The conference will be opened by Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič. High-level panel discussions will be moderated by the European Commission Deputy Secretary-General Pascal Leardini. Participants include the Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Legal Affairs Adrián Vázquez Lázara, the President of the European Court of Auditors Klaus-Heiner Lehne, and the Chair of the German National Regulatory Control Council and former State Secretary Dr. Johannes Ludewig. Other high-level panellists include the European Parliament rapporteur on the Communication on Better Regulation, the Chair of the European Commission Regulatory Scrutiny Board, the head of the Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration Political System Directorate, as well as members of the Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee. The business environment, in particular the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is represented by the Secretary General of SMEUnited, the association of crafts and SMEs in Europe bringing together 70 member organisations from over 30 European countries.
