The European Green Deal is the result of your Fridays for Future. Young people who took to the streets on Fridays pushed us politicians to do more. This is how we got there
Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius
The Citizens' Dialogue was in a fully digital format and was live-streamed from a virtual studio in Rome. The dialogue was coorganised with ‘Green&Blue’, the environmentally-focused content hub of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Two journalists of La Repubblica moderated the discussion. The event’s language was Italian (with English interpretation for the Commissioner).
12 young participants (9 students from 5 different schools from across Italy and 3 young people from NGOs, namely Legambiente, Fridays for Future, WWF-Italy) were live during the dialogue and asked very interesting questions to the Commissioner on how the EU intends to foster environmentally-sustainable behaviours, on the protection of soil, biodiversity and endangered species, and on how to reduce waste and foster recycling habits.
Moreover, one participant illustrated an innovative project from Sicily, i.e. textiles made from orange peel waste.
The event was streamed on the Facebook page and the website of the Representation in Italy and triggered many comments and questions on the Facebook page of the Representation. The record of the CD was published on Repubblica.it on 2 March 2021.
