Ecodesign requirements
Ecodesign requirements for solid fuel local space heaters are mandatory since January 2022 for all manufacturers and suppliers wishing to sell their products in the EU.
The Commission aims to review the ecodesign rules for solid fuel local space heaters and launched on 21 September 2023 a public consultation and call for evidence to seek input from the public and stakeholders. It is open for feedback until 14 December 2023.
Energy savings
EU ecodesign requirements on solid fuel local space heaters will save up to 63 petajoules per year by 2030, equivalent to twice the entire primary energy consumption of Malta in 2021.
There will also be a reduction particulate matter emissions of around 500 000 tonnes per year.
