Prof. Andrzej Szostek, rector of KUL in years 1998-2004 Phd. Marek Prawda, Head of the European Commission in PolandSzostak in his speech mentions that silence of the Christian Church is disturbing. Inconvenient subjects are avoided by Christian authorities. In his vision, Europe means the compromise, diversity. He also mentions that Brexit may turn out to be the start of the integration process for European Union.According to Marek Prawda, creation of the European Union is the effect of hard work of Christian and Democratic politics. Europe is more than only geographical identity, it has the soul. The idea behind the creation of EU is to be the union of the values. However there are 3 misunderstandings in perception of the EU by people. European identity does not exclude having a national identity but can extend it. 15 years in European Union is very important experience for Poland despite many ups and downs during this time.Mainly because of constant EU problems it cannot show people how important this institution is. The accession to the EU shouldn’t be seen as an ultimate goal. Experience in EU may help Poland to create its own modernity and identity. Second misunderstanding – seeing EU as a created model for people to head to and they may failed. Correct perception should be seeing European Union as the concept created on the basis on solutions to problems that EU came across. The Church and European Union are universal entities. Silence of the Church in important issues is very visible. Church needs to be entity of dialogue. Third misunderstanding – problems not connected with EU are credited to it. Now Europe is in crisis of the liberal democracy. Countries can’t handle the problems their own problems. The goal of the Church and Europe is to tell how important is being and working together.Old continent is like old man. It has knowledge, it is wise but now it only prepares itself for the death. That is the vision of European people at the moment. Europe forgets about the church roots it has. Even Pope is not a European person. Church members need to have a deep conversion.Dialogue with other people, other European people is needed. The hope is needed to be built. Crisis in European Union is a challenge for EU. Many countries have separatist and nationalist tendencies and Poland is the example of that tendencies. There is no need to predict what to expect from Europe and Church in the future. We all should do mind own business.
