International organisations
Global challenges in the field of justice such as respect for the rule of law, good governance and support for democracy require working together with many different international organisations.
Council of Europe
The European Commission actively participates in the work of the Council of Europe. The two institutions cooperate closely, running joint programmes to promote democratic values and human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law in Europe.
At expert level, the institutions work together on a wide variety of fields, from civil and criminal justice to judicial cooperation.
United Nations
The European Commission also works with the UN in the field of justice. In particular, the Commission cooperates with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
