What we offer
Visits can be on-site, online or both. They usually last up to one week. DGT staff can provide
- translation workshops
- presentations and discussions on the work of Directorate-General for Translation
- demonstrations of technical tools our translators use (terminology databases, CAT tools, machine translation)
Benefits of sharing knowledge
The visiting translator scheme can
- foster networking and boost collaboration between DGT and host organisations on terminology, language technologies and/or working methods
- discuss EU and national legislation, helping to achieve more consistency in the terminology used in national and EU law
- boost cooperation between the world of EU translation and European universities
- contribute to training future translation professionals
- promote multilingualism
- improve understanding of the EU institutions
Who it's for
Universities
DGT staff can visit EU universities running translation programmes. Priority is given to universities that are members of the European Master's in Translation.
Public institutions
The public institutions visited can be, among others, government ministries, research institutes, public bodies, international organisations or national banks.
Private companies
The visiting translator scheme is open to companies which
- have a translation service
- use specialised terminology (ex: laboratories, production units, banks and other financial organisations)
It is not open to language service providers.
